Fisen is fresh again and HUNGRY. He's not allowed to eat anything yet, though.
We went to the vet where he charmed everyone with his most precious kitty behaviour: purring from the moment we stepped in the door until the moment we left. He had his temperature measured, was handled and touched everywhere, had his front paw cut free of hair, had two bloodsamples taken, had a syringe stuck in his neck to rehydrate him, had an injection, he met a dog and another cat...and all the time he was friendly, butting his head against the vet, and purring. *proud*
Both vet and assistant, who was also his wife, kept commenting on how good he was. The assistant went all batty over him and started to play with his as he was being rehydrated: "Iiiiii cooooover your eyes! Iiiiiii coooooover your eyes!" Her husband had to ask her to please not play with the cat while he had the needle in him. *lol*
Fisen thought they were way cool. I really liked the way they handled him. Of course the wife gets extra points for getting all silly, but the vet was good as well: handling Fisen very gently and using as little force as possible. He also took our observations seriously, comparing them to his diagnosis, which made me feel very relaxed and confident that he knew what he was doing - and that he took us seriously. Something I have had problems with before when dealing with other vets. Twice I've had to insist that my pet is critically ill and that they treat it. Both times I was right, but who knows what had happened if I hadn't insisted? So this vet gets top-points in that area.
The preliminary tests showed a chronically lowered kidney function, but nothing life-threatening and nothing acute. It's not the best news we could get, but it certainly isn't the worst either. Fisen will be put on a special diet and his blood is being tested further. We have to call tomorrow evening for the final results.
