It's all quiet here, apart from the "Bridge on the River Kwai" black bird, singing his heart out. I wonder if he's the one who stole our strawberry? This was our first strawberry of the season. We've been following it since we first planted the strawberry plant with it's single white flower. When the snails attacked, we counter attacked, and we fretted when the hail and cold weather came. We rejoiced when the strawberry grew and went from green to white. Then a few days ago came the first blush of red, which spread until one evening the berry looked almost ready to pluck. We decided to wait until the next day to pluck the berry - bad, bad decision. Next day the berry was gone. Thief! Thief!

I tried out a rum pudding recipe. I was worried about the lack of eggs, I should have been focusing on the quantity of rum instead. That was one *hup* strong pudding! We had to drown it in whipped cream and maple syrup to make it edible. Pudding consistency and colour was excellent, though. I'll try to make it again with just one third of the rum. Or maybe a bailey pudding?
