Yesterday C and I went to Germany and Austria to look for a dress for me for the Greek wedding. We didn't find any, but a short trip to C&A in town turned out to be successful. Now I have a lovely bordeaux evening dress. It even looks a bit gothic with laces that have to be tied up the back! C helped me chose and after I managed to zip myself, he took care of all the zippers...lol

AND I can wear my black high-heeled sandals, which are rather comfy - necessary since I'm the bridesmaid and will have to stand up for hours (First in the church and then outside the church where I have to shake hands with the 400 guests)

Now the question is; should I wear a discreet diamond necklace to go with it - or should I make an opulent gothic necklace out of black firepolished beads?

What will the Greeks like for a necklace? :)

They'll definitely prefer the discreet diamond one. Thing is, I think the gothic one will look much better with the dress. :)

Save the gothic for your next occasion and find something that'll make your bride and her Greeks happy! :)

(Mom's advice, spouted through mouthpiece #7,584,422. :g:)

You do sound just like my mom! Bride doesn't care what I wear, though, as long as it's not white. As for the older generation, I don't think I can make them entirely happy unless I suddenly become Greek overnight. Seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"? That movie was a comedy, but not a parody...*grin*

I'll take your advice and at least wait with the gothic necklace until I've had a change to go through my jewellery and see how they go with the dress. They're all in a bank-box - not that I have that much, I just never wear any. :)

hee. Yes, I understand. It's a tough decision. I was maid of honor once (for the sister-of-my-heart, after I swore I'd do no other weddings for, well, a long long long time, but I couldn't say no to her), so I read up on what I was supposed to be responsible for. It was a pain, because the other bridesmaid wasn't open to my suggestion of matched shoes and jewelry, which I thought would look classy, and I had no idea what to do with the flowers that were supposed to be pinned on people (darn website didn't say a thing about those).

Then, too, she and the seamstress (the dresses were made for us) didn't get along, and she didn't have the sense to point out that a skin-tight dress would split as soon as she moved, and the seamstress didn't have the sense to leave a little ease in, and so -- yep. She's dancing away, and ripppp goes a back seam.

It's crazy how every wedding I've seen, been in, and heard of, everyone complains about the bridesmaids' dresses. The bride goes around saying, I want you to like them and be able to wear them again, and you end up with something in your closet that you wouldn't touch unless you had a plague victim to wrap up. Must've been nice to pick your own.

I hope you find enough things in your closet to be comfortable! :)

Well, if your bridesmaid dresses are anything like the ones I've seen in American movies, then I don't envy you!

Of course I have to perform some obscure ritual in church with instructions in Greek (which I don't understand), so I guess I'm not to be envied either. *grin*

I like dresses that doesn't have to be ironed - and dresses that will leave me space to eat! :)

hee. Ours were actually pretty simply, princess-seamed medium-dark green material that I don't know the name of, but not silk: a lightweight polyester-type, so it draped well but didn't cling. Square neckline, short sleeves, long but not trailing. She was pretty sensible and we got off lucky. It was more my color than Jackie's, but we looked pretty good. Mutt and Jeff, of course. ;)

But ironing, phoeey on it. And eating is important! So is being able to breathe!
