Jul. 24th, 2005 05:51 pm25 km on the bike yesterday, the calories burnt were promptly refilled by the huge dinner I ate at Patagonia in the evening! Our friends brought along their 8 month old son to the restaurant. He was cute as a button, but fussing a bit with piercing wails, the parents were stressed and had to bring in his push-chair, his cookies, his toys, take turns bouncing him on their knees and we were all making sure that he didn't grab anything hazardous such as knives, forks and glasses from the table. I am likely an old childless grouch, but I really don't think toddlers belong in restaurants - at least not the kind where people come to have a quiet meal together with a good glass of wine. The children are bored, the parents are stressed, the other guests are disturbed. It's just a no win situation.
C suggested that next time we meet at our place, where he will have more freedom to potter about and play.
