Apr. 22nd, 2006 09:56 amThanks for all the birthday wishes! *hugs*
I got more presents. The lastest Harry Potter on DVD, which we're going to watch today, and a field binoculars for my bird watching! Maybe now I can see that elusive woodpecker. :)
The Indian restaurant was an...experience. We ordered vegetarian samosas with a mint sauce for starters. They were good, if somewhat heavy and the mint sauce could definitely have been more minty. Halfway through the starters the doors opens and in steps three little old ladies from the Salvation Army! So there we are, in an Indian restuarant at 21:00 in the evening listning to high-pitched, ancient voices singing it's time for bible time. There was a certain surreal feeling to that.
After waiving goodbye to the Salvation Army, we proceeded with the main course. Basmati rice, naan, grilled meat (I forget the spice) and dry spiced, curry prawns. The praws were yummy, the sauce that went with the grilled meat was yummy with lots of coriander. The meat was a disaster. There was a sausage with a consistency of rubber tire and a flat taste. There was a leg of chicken that tasted not like chicken, but perhaps...rooster? In any case the taste of the meat itself overwhelmed even the spices to the point where I could not eat it. The rest of the meat was edible, but nothing special. The naan was flat, chewy and tasteless as well. On the positive side the water was icy-cold, just as I like it and the wine was light and flowery, but not too sweet.
The restaurant owner on the other hand was quite a personality and C enjoyed chatting with him. This food itself, however, was several notches below the last one we visited outside of Geneva last year, but now we know where not to take visitors.

Date: 2006-04-23 12:50 am (UTC)Happy belated birthday! Sorry to hear the meal was a bit of a let-down, but Harry Potter on DVD should make up for it! :) I just received my order of the entire series of books (so far) from the UK (I've read the US versions, but wanted the UK versions to add to my library)!

Date: 2006-04-24 08:57 am (UTC)Yes, the Harry Potter DVD was good - the best so far, I think. Daniel Radcliffe gave his best performance so far, I found him way too stiff in the earlier movies. C pointed out some huge flaws in logic, but I was just watching for the fun of it, throwing my analytical mind out the window. :)
