Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell...I've been reading this book for months, I was reading it when [livejournal.com profile] mnfaure and her kissy face hubby came to visit us in March. Now I'm about half-way. 493 pages, and I still find it tedious, each page is a struggle to get through - and the footnotes are not working for me at all. I'm not ready to fling it across the room*, but I have reached the point where the book may be quietly shelved or given away. I'm surprised that the book was ever published, not to mention the amount of attention and positive feed-back it has received. Am I missing something?

*although I'm dangerously close to doing so.

Never read it :) But I have a new principle where if I don't like a book I don't bother finishing it. This comes from being forced to read Herzog in Uni. *shudders*

I actually really liked it. But then I read it while nursing Isaac (think half an hour to forty minutes of sitting in the rocking chair every threeish hours) and it still took me about three weeks to finish.

I'm going to buy it to re-read while nursing the new baby. :D
