Waiting for our guests to wake up. It's V's birthday today and yesterday he ended 15 years of being a vegetarian* by ordering a veal schnitzel w. fries. I don't know who was more stunned. His friend S or C and I.

*the kind who still eats eggs, fish and milk produce.
-----------------------------------------

I'm not dieting, but I've been watching what I eat since coming back from Cyprus. My goal is to lose a total of 6 kg. I've lost one so far just by eating sensibly. Yesterday was not a good weight-loss day, but I don't want to be fanatic about it either.
-----------------------------------------

Am sick and tired of being a cyclic writer. I'm going to finished the damn book - and that other damn book as well!

I'm also tired of having to spend an entire day cleaning. I really need to do more day to day cleaning and worry less about the house being spotless when guests arrive.

Time to pull myself together. I'm not going to write plans or schedules. I'm just going to do it and write down the progress instead of focusing on all the things I didn't manage to do during the day. Positive thinking. Yeah, that's it.
-----------------------------------------

And now, I work. :)

It seems like you spend an awful lot of time cleaning in anticipation of guests. I think if you took a poll of your guests, you'd find the majority don't care if there's dust on the lampshade or even some toothpaste splatters on the faucet. And if they do care about things like that, my policy is, don't invite 'em. :)

You are of course absolutely right.

It's partly a cultural thing. Danes are terribly house-proud.

Partly it's my family's fault. Too many "piggy" written in the dust in my living room and a nice wooden sign with "Clean up! Your mother doesn't live here" given to me with a flourish on my 20th birthday has damaged me, I'm afraid*. Of course my family wouldn't dare treat me that way today, but I still find it difficult to not go into a cleaning frenzy.

*I was living in a 45 squaremetre house with 2 cats, 2 cockatoos, and 1 lazy and messy bf. The place was impossible to keep spotless. Plus I was working part time and studying full semesters at the university.

My mother once wrote "Love, Mom" in the dust on my bookshelf. I found it a month after she had visited.

hahaha...well, that was actually rather sweet of her. Did you mention it to her when you found it? Or did you keep quiet because of the month that had passed? :)

Oh, no, I mentioned it to her. We had a good laugh over it. We had reached that point in our relationship where neither of us freaked over things like that.

Absolutely lovely, I wish I could have that kind of relationship with my mother. :)
