You could compromise on 8 1/2. I mean, you have to take into account the wear-and-tear on your knees as well, right?

When I'm alone, I put the beads into two carrier bags with each 6 kg. It not too bad to haul up at all, about the same as two bags of shopping, I suppose. When C's here, I just carry up what he gives me to carry. *grin*
