Dermatologist called. My blod tests had slightly elevated levels, showing that my body is fighting off an infection, but since I have a cold and a sore throat that's not surprising. Just in case, I have to go for a repeat test once my cold is over. All other levels, iron etc. were perfect - in fact numbers as good as mine are rarely seen in women. I was told the same by my doctor when they checked my blood last November, so I'm taking this as proof that my philosophy of varied eating instead of vitamin and mineral supplements is sound*.

*For some reason people like to nag me about this.

What got me about supplements was the news a while back that millions of vitamin pills and suchlike are found in the sewage... untouched, so to speak, by having gone through the human body.

I haven't actually checked to see if this one of those widespread fictional accounts, like the one about how Bill Gates will send you money if you email him--which my sis-in-law wanted to do---but you know, the eating theory makes much better sense to me than popping pills all the time. You have to spend money on food, anyway, so why not make it a variety of good food and save the pill money for something else?

I like to treat my vitamins as safeguards. *Just* in case I didn't get all the folic acid or calcium or whatever that I need. Otheriwse, it's too much work trying to figure out how many servings of iron-rich food I had. :P

I've been on prenatal vitamins and calcium supplements for three years! Someday, I'll only have to worry about *my* nutritional needs. :D

Folic acid during pregnancy is a different matter, even I would take that. :)

I don't think too much about what I eat, just trust my body to crave what is needed.
