Jonesy isn't feeling well today*, so Murphy has proclaimed me not only number one cuddler, but number one playmate as well, and I think he's teething. It's very difficult to get any work done.

Yesterday C forgot to take down the garbage a mere 2 minutes after I'd reminded him to take down the garbage. His explanation? I distracted him by reminding him, had I not reminded him, he would have remembered.

Oh and I have this craving for a cup of hot chocolate, but I know that once I make it, the idea of hot chocolate will be much better than the actual hot chocolate, because I don't have that much of a sweet tooth. *dilemma dilemma*
-----------------
*I suspect it's the wetfood he had yesterday. Jonesy has an extremely delicate stomach. I gave them a little to share, something like two teaspoonfuls, but Felix couldn't be bothered and Murphy didn't like it. Jonesy didn't really like it either, but he's greedy.

Boannan nearly goes out of her own skin with glee when she gets wetfood. She got some for Christmas (made with duck, of course) and she could hardly wait for me to open the can and put it on a saucer for her. Then I could make her run around in little circles just by holding the saucer over her head. And all the while she was meowing as if she was paid for it. When I came home the next day she had eaten all the canned food and as far as I could see hadn't touched her real food. She only gets it once or twice a year though, as I consider it more or less junkfood. I refuse to believe petfood of a decent quality can be purchased in an ordinary supermarket. It's probably good enough, but it's not good.

And as for the cocoa, making half a cup would be the fitting compromise to your dilemma. You get cocoa, but not very much. Of course it's a lot of work for almost nothing, but there's a price on everything. :p

We get good quality pet food in the supermarkets down here, but I know how it is in Denmark. When I was living there, I always bought petfood from the pet stores. I bet you've had plenty of dicussion regarding cheap cat food versus the more expensive brands. I used to have them all the time. The best one was "Mi' hund levd' a svinepiller hel' si' liv å den blev 14 år!"

I've had well-meaning people feed the cats supermarket food while they were looking after them and each time one of the cats (not the same one) would get urinary tract problems. Last time it cost me 3000 kr. in vet bills.

The canned food this time was Iams - the one that's like a paste, my old cat, Fisen, used to love it and this is one of the last cans we have. Felix doesn't care much for wet food and Jonesy and Murphy prefer the chunky wet food. Murphy still gets approx. half wet food, half dry food, but the older cats get 99% dry food. They get wet food maybe 4-5 times a year, and then some tidbids from the kitchen, like shrimps, chicken, maize, honey melon, tuna etc. :)

Half a cup of cocoa? Perfect solution, if I can convince my lazy bone to warm half a cup of milk. *grin*

It's not too bad discussion wise, actually, but I think that's because my opinion on pet-food is one I've inherited from my dad, so people don't think it's new snobbery (besides, we're the only ones in the family to have pets, that helps a lot too). My dad however once accidentally pissed an elderly couple off in the supermarket where they were looking at dog food and wondering which one to take. Eventually they ended up at the cheapest brand with the words, 'that's got to be good enough'. Then he heard his mouth say, 'would you also feed your children scrap-fish?'

If I had people looking after Boannan, I'd probably bring her own food with her. For once it would be lucky that she's got such a sensible tummy, because I don't have to get on the subject of food quality, and can just say 'this is what she's used to eating. Please don't give her something else, she'll get diarrhea' She's eaten Royal Canin all her life, and I'm not about to change that.

Hehehe...good for your dad!

Yeah, the cats always come with their own food (Iams fish) if they have to be looked after, but some of the cat-sitters thought it was a pity that the cats always had to eat the same dry stuff day in and day out, even though I had told them not to feed them anything else, but at least now they've seen the consequences of supermarket food and have converted to my food philisophy. :)

Hee. Trial and error can be a fairly harsh learning tool sometimes.
I've got a friend who used to have two cats (both of them unfortunately victim to cars) and she started out by feeding them some ordinary run-of-the-mill supermarket brand. Then we got to talking about it, and I suggested she try a higher quality brand, so she bought Iams for them (I think) and she came and told me only days later about the difference she'd seen. The amount of poop she cleaned out of their litterbox was only half of what it used to be.
