Observation of the day:
Some cats (Jonesy) will come for the occasional cuddle or let themselves be cuddled by dotty human (me), but are generally too dignified to plomp onto laps.
Some cats are cuddlers and three leg kneaders (Felix) and will sleep on human's lap (women only) for hours and hours on end.
Some cats are convinced non-cuddling is akin to kitty-torture (Murphy), they will not only sleep on human's lap (anyone available) for hours, but insist that they be carried, gazed upon lovingly, stroked, scritched and kissed until they fall asleep...and when they wake up - yup, you got it.

Which type of cat do you have?

Oh...and I'm not-writing, and I'm refusing to fret about not-writing.

I think my Boannan is a closet-Felix trying to come across as a Jonesy. :p She rarely comes to lie in my lap (unless, for some reason, if I'm on the loo), but when she does she's loath to move. Most of the time though, she'll just come lie next to me, all glued to my hip and making sure I can't type because her position has locked my elbow and shoulder in an awkward position. :p

hehehe...she's found the perfect balance between getting cuddled and maintaining her pride.

Poor old kitty, although I can imagine there is a certain satisfaction in pooping in people's shoes.

And go ratty! :D

I have a... Mina. :)

A Mina feigns to dislike cuddling and petting, protests being picked up (but not very much), but likes to be in the same room, and, if one is playing video games, likes to curl on the chair on which my feet are propped and keep them warm. At night, she likes to curl up to sleep on the pillow by my head so I can pet her, and then purrs and purrs while she gets petted and scritched.

My fiance has a variation of your Murphy. His Nicki feels that to be out of human contact at all is torture, and must at all times be as close as she can possibly get. She usually has to settle for a lap (mine), or my fiance's chest (he sits in one of those round type chairs, tilted back so she can lay half over his shoulder, with her head against his neck, and her paw over his chest). But she'd prefer to be closer, as I've woken up in the middle of the night to find her inexplicably trying to crawl into my mouth or to jam her head into my ear.

Did I mention that she's not a small cat?

There's nothing quite like being awoken in the middle of the night by a large furry, shedding creature, purring like mad and pressing their skull, cold nose first, into your ear.

I've learned to sleep with my mouth shut.

hehehe...one of the reasons why our cats are not allowed in the bedroom at night.

Jonesy isn't adverse to stick his head in my mouth, but that's only if I'm chewing on something.

Is Mina named after the Dracula character?

Actually, her name is, on paper anyway, "Domino." I am a fan of the novel Dracula, and I'd always liked the name Mina, and it seemed like a natural sort of nickname for Domino, which is NOT easy to say when you're scolding.

But since I never actually call her Domino, she's pretty much just Mina. I didn't realize how unusual a name that was until people starting commenting on it. Dracula has been around for ages... I wonder why the name never caught on?

Other than the fact that it's really short for Wilhemina, which isn't as pretty as just plain "Mina."

I think most people either forgot or don't know Mina from Dracula. When I first he got two cats, one called Dracula and one called Bathory - and he was kicking himself after he found out about the name Mina. :)

Min is akin to Murphy, but sometimes has her "I'm not in the mood for a cuddle moments." And so far I'm the only human with a suitable lap. A fourth kind of cat?
