[livejournal.com profile] rabiagale with the too cute kids, had a post the other day that made me think of a conversation I had with C some time ago, so I thought I'd bring it up on LJ as well. It's not silly stuff, honest. It's "cultural understanding"! :)

What do the animals say in your native language?

I'll post some Danish ones here, feel free to add yours, just remember to mention what language it is in :)

Pig says "øf"
Dog says "vov"
Cat says "mjav"
Cow says "muh"
Duck says "rap"
Rooster says "kykkeliky"
Bird says "pip"

Thanks. It's fun to see how animal sounds are interpreted. :)

In alternative English, Canadian version.
Dog says woof
Cat says meerow
Cow says moo
Duck says quack
Rooster says duck tastes far nicer.
Bird says tweet
He the Pig says 'I've broken your daughter's heart again.'

Sorry,May. I am in a pissy mood today and likely to be fascious. I can't bear ill-mannered sideswipes at people not around to defend themselves. And this isn't about He the Pig. It is about very bad online behavior involving flaming and sarcasm on a small site. I's had it and have said precisely what I thought. There will be nuclear fallout so I am in that cranky frame of mind. (g) Cry havoc. Let loose the dogs of war!

The challenge was taken up and battle lines are drawn. I have already entrenched myself on the high ground of politeness, consideration, correct work ethics and accurate information.

Horns polished, tail in order, claws to the ready. Yep. I's a gonna have fun.

Well, the one that David and I argue about is roosters.

American roosters, according to him, say "Cock-a-doodle-doo". Nonsense, say I, have you ever even listened to roosters? *Of course* they don't say something so silly. They say "Kookarookooo!" (transliterated).

:D
