What's that bird?
Apr. 20th, 2008 06:06 pmThese past couple of weeks I've heard a new type of birdsong, very distinct and quite nice. So spent half the afternoon today listening to bird song files online, trying to determine what bird I was hearing.
And tadaadaaa: The Lapwing (Vibe in Danish).

I don't know if it's the file quality or the difference between British Lapwings and Danish ones, but the boy singing around here has a much more pleasant and less shrill voice.

That's as close to a bird icon I can get...

I actually found a danish sound file first, where the sound was exactly like "my" lapwing, but it's on a password protected site and I couldn't post the link here. This boy here has less of the squawk and more of the whistle, which can also explain the pleasantness. I think they squawk more when they are protecting their young.
Happy Birthday! :)
