Yes, I know. A puppy post.
Oct. 1st, 2008 10:56 pmI can't post it in my dog blog because it contains abbreviations such as PIB and PIP, which are not very professional.
But yes, we have them too. Those evenings where the puppy is just a PIB (pain in butt). Lia was at it for 5 hours, since 18:00. The hour from 19:00-20:00 was a bit amusing, as she became very concerned by seeing me in the bathtub for the first time:
Lia: You're DROWNING!!! I drink all the water and save you!
M: I'm not drowning.
Lia: Why are you just lying there?! I jump in the tub and get you out!
M: Lia, NO! *manages to push puppy down before she does something stupid*
Lia: SAVE YOU! SAVE YOU! *Whiney growls, barks and talks. Tries to jump in tub*
M: Stoppit.
Lia: SAVE YOU! SAVE YOU!
M: *gives up and goes to the kitchen to get a "bone-usually-reserved-for-special-occasions-because-of-puppy's-food aggression."*
Lia: BONE! BONE! BONE! BONE!
M: *gives puppy bone and goes back in tub*
Lia: YAAAY! BONE! BONE! BONE!
M: I thought you were worried about me drowning?
Lia: Huh? Naw, you'll be okay.
Of course once the bone-session was over we were back to PIB puppy again. Demanding constant attention, barking at Felix or digging my back and arm when ignored (painful). For hours. She's been activated enough today, so I suspect we're dealing with a PIP (poop in progress), but I've taken her out 4 times in the pouring rain and something like 5 degrees celsius, wearing only my dressing gown and wooden clogs, and nothing's coming out, because "oh! there's a puddle of water! And, oh! There's a stick! And, oh! There's a kitten, and another one, and another one!" I grit my teeth and swear that while I will not throttle puppy, I might just throttle E the next time she says that it's sooo much easier taking a puppy out to do its business than changing a diaper.
Finally, I lost my temper. Instead of a "No" followed by a "Gooood girl" when being ripped to shreds by sharp dog claws, I barked NO!!!!!, letting out all my pent up frustration. Of course it worked. I knew it would. Lia is a little peace and love puppy, who does her best to avoid conflict and ensure that everyone is sweet and happy, so now she's zonked out on the floor by my feet. Nice and quiet. Me? I'm still irritated and stressed.
