Jan. 25th, 2009 12:34 pmIt's my day off. My parents will be coming over this afternoon with my dad's old Greenland slides for us to watch. It should be interesting. It must be 25 years since I last saw them and at that time I thought it sheer torture: "Oh look snow! More snow. Snow. Iceberg, iceberg, iceberg, iceberg, snow, iceberg, iceberg, iceberg...aaaand surprise, surprise, ANOTHER iceberg."
When C asked how long it would take to see them all, my immediate answer was "hours!", whereas my parents looked at me as if I was completely bonkers and said: "30-45 mins".
I have a feeling, I might be more appreciative of them as an adult, though.

Date: 2009-01-25 05:19 pm (UTC)I had an aunt and uncle who went to Australia. Years later they came for an extended vacation along with 1,500 slides. They had to explain each one during the course of a brilliant, sunfilled summer where we were trapped in a dark room with the drapes drawn. I have subsequently seen other photos of Australia and know it to be a beautiful and diverse place, but over the course of that summer I think I made a serious attempt to hybernate. "Oh look, a picture of aunt and uncle standing by a tree. And in front of a field, and a road sign, and oh look, there is more grass, brown grass, that is a change. And a tree with aunt and uncle, and as a minute slowely past, another tree."
If I were you I would arrange to have ready some nice nibbles so that you can get up to go fetch them at regular intervals. C might be able to stay awake if he can look forward to a tasty snack every time you get up.

Date: 2009-01-25 09:42 pm (UTC)C controlled the slide speed and my aunt announced that we did not want to hear stories about my dad's old buddies.
But I know what you mean about holiday shots. They are a nightmare. I went through something of the same with a friend who'd been in Australia for 3 months and had probably photographed every single sunset during that time.
