Garden update
Mar. 28th, 2009 07:08 pmThe old road will remain more or less as it is, covered with grass, as just digging along it is proving plenty of work. Instead I'll plant lavenders between it and the kitchen garden. Lavenders and something else, which I can't decide on. It should be either higher than the lavenders and facing the "road" or it should be lower than the lavenders and facing the kitchen garden. I had also considered mixing the lavender with heather, but from what I can see, I can't plant heather as seeds, but need to buy them as young plants and plant them in sphagnum, which will be way too expensive, considering the number of plants I'll be needing.
I'm getting the hang of the digging, and I've managed to clear out one bed, plus I'm making good progress weeding between the herbs and the strawberries. The green house is almost done, just need to haul out two old plant sacks and wash down the glass.
If my budget allows it, I'm thinking of planting raspberries and blackberries. We already have gooseberries, red- and black currant, but I'd like something sweeter.
We decided to skip our original orchard plan, as we've discovered that we can't finish the fruit produced by the fruit trees we already have in the garden.
C tried to plow the field with the garden tractor, but it's just not strong enough. I guess we'll have to borrow or rent a tractor at some point.
Still need to send in the papers for the living fence and the birch groove. Must do this Monday!
