C opened his shop today! Everything went well. C was a bit stressed at the beginning, because he's not been diligent with his Danish studies, but the customers were excited to talk to him and assured him that they understood everything. :)

We were back at 14:00, where we ate and I promptly zonked out on the couch watching Discovery Channel, while C worked upstairs. This evening he helped me turn in ashes and fertilizer in bed nr. 3 and we planted two different types of carrots, two different types of onions, and spinach. I still have 2 weeks left of planting time, so I'm going to see if I can manage to dig out a small bed nr. 4 to plant maize. I still need to wash down the greenhouse and plant in there as well, though.

And why am I up this late? Procrastinating, it's injection day, as I postphoned it to be able to help C with the opening today.

Congratulations to C for his successful opening. I take it that he is an avid fisherman in his own right to open such a shop. It should be very satisfying.

And now I am smiling. I enjoy reading about your garden and what you are doing with it. Today I was transported back a good few years by a memory. The budding gardener May with her window boxes in Switzerland. I think you have come into your own and are having so much fun.

I am also insanely jealous as our growing season is set back yet again. I still can't stick anything outside because of the chill. We might even get snow this weekend. Growl. I also have a garage full off plants waiting to be dug in. I have hanging baskets to hang up and I have had to move my container boxes in there, too. Oh, and I have a lilac in my yard, too. It is a white lilac and the flower heads are approximately the size of my thumbnail. Yes, that retarded. Double growl.

wow! Congrats to your husband. I guess it's best to start enterpreneur-ing (is that even a word) in this crisis time. I have an Indonesian friend living in Sweden and she's opening her clothing shop.

My boyfriend's thinking the same, only that his interest is neither fishing or clothing but (professional) radio-control cars & parts(not toys for small boys LOL). Perhaps you could give us hints and tips on how to open our own shops?

Thank you. We are entrepreneurs, between us we run three businesses. :)

Step 1 in opening your own business is market research. This will reveal if it's feasible and what kind of business and what location you have to aim for. For example if it will be better with just an internet-shop or if you need a physical shop and where this shop needs to be located. Depending on which products you're selling, internetshops can be a good way to start up, you can keep your dayjob at the beginning until you know how well the shop is going to run, you don't need as big a start-up investment and the running costs of an internet shop is significantly lower than those of a physical shop, because you don't need to pay houserent, heating, electricity and you can cut down on employees. On the other hand a physical shop is more visible, and many people prefer to see the goods in person before buying them or they need to try them or get in depth customer service.

Also, Denmark has "Erhvervscentre" all over the country, and if you're thinking of starting up a business and haven't done this kind of thing before, it's well worth it to pay them a visit. It's free and they will inform you of all the basics and practical issues you need to take into consideration. :)

Thanks for the tips.

We would pay a visit to Erhvervcentret soon I think. The market for this toys for big boys thing is actually pretty big because there are RC clubs and events going on here but there's no actual shop around here, so far my boyfriend has to buy his parts from US and with his skill in assembling / repairing stuff we might as well open a shop and a repair service :)

Thank you. :)
Yes, C is an avid fisherman to the point where he surfcasts in the Danish winter, wearing a lamp on his head to be able to see in the darkness and uses the remainer of his tea to pour over his hands to keep them from freezing up.

I am enjoying the gardning, and I hope to be self-sufficient with fruits and vegetables at one point, but I need to study more about it, this is definitely much more fun than the terrasse bed and pots I had in Switzlerland. :)

Sounds like we're way ahead on you with the season. We did have a cold night last week with temperatures just around freezing point, but it hasn't affected the plants. My rhodendendrons and hortensias are in full bloom now. When does your planting season usually start?
