Taking the morning off to study for the June 7th elections. There are 2 items on the agenda.
1. Implementing equal rights in the Danish Law of Succession.
2. Voting for who should represent Denmark in the EU-Parliament.
I've read the arguments of the opposition regarding the Danish Law of Succession, but they are not convincing, especially not if you know your Danish history. To me this vote has less to do with the monarchy than with equal rights, though. Equal rights are equal rights whether you're male or female; royal or commoner; black, white or green. The whole idea of "I believe in equal rights, just not for this group of the population" just doesn't work for me at all.
Voting for the EU-Parliament is more complicated and will require some research.
EDIT:
Hmmm, deciding who to vote for in the EU parliament was surprisingly easy, mainly because there were so many candidates that I do not want to vote for. The lesser of several evils, I guess.

Date: 2009-05-29 03:18 pm (UTC)When people choose not to vote on the law of succession because they don't support the monarchy and think it should be abolished and so on and so forth.
Newsflash, the continuation of the monarchy is NOT on the ballot. I can't see why people can't make a decision on whether or not there should be equal rights within when they can certainly make a decision on whether or not there should be equal rights in EVERYTHING else.
And I would still say that even if I wasn't a royalist.
