Saturation point...
Jun. 25th, 2009 07:20 pm...when daily strawberry harvest exceeds daily consumption amount, a general strawberry saturation point starts to set it. Lia went off strawberries weeks ago, I'm definitely not as excited as I used to be, and even C, who before strawberry season began, insisted he could eat strawberries daily - no problem, is showing a slight lack of enthusiasm, although he's probably not ready to admit it quite yet.
I think it's time to look into jam-making and smoothies.
Other than it's just too warm in Denmark at the moment, for me at least. Poor C wakes up freezing in the morning because I insist on having the window open and the fan on.
And living in harmony with nature includes telling the blackbirds to "SHUT UP!". The cat already knows you've seen it, I know you've seen it, in fact the whole neighbour hood from here and in a 5 km radius will know that you've seen it.
In other news, I started driving again last week. It's possible to shift gears using just 3 fingers, but my hand was aching somewhat by the time I was back home again. Tomorrow will mean lots of driving again, Saturday Lia and I are going on a 7 hour dog training course and Tuesday, we're off to the vet in Herning for vaccinations, HD- and AD x-rays. Lia's very skeptical about vets and driving in my little car, I've never driven alone in Herning before, so that should prove interesting. Think I can sneak into the x-ray room and put my hand on the table to confirm nothing is broken?
Good news is that I manage to write +1000 words today. Those of you who are familiar with my regular (non-exsistent) writing speed, will know that this is no mean feat. :p

Date: 2009-06-29 10:29 am (UTC)Pick up some healthy looking plants at your local plant nursery, plant them in fertilized soil (strawberries are not particular about fertilization), make sure they don't dry out during the first few weeks and after that they more or less take care of themselves. They will start to produce little plants, which you can then replant whenever you feel like it. After 3 years, the original plants will give less yield, but the young plants will have picked up production. :)
Your worst enemies will be slugs and blackbirds, you can buy a netting to keep the blackbirds away. The slugs can be combatted by spreading out hay on the ground between the strawberries or by making slug traps or by using slug poison.
