...it's a lovely, lovely sight to see your dog chase an intruding cat* at full speed and then when called; whip around as if yanked by an invisible leash, running back at equally full speed. It's even more lovely to see it happen when C calls her, because she's doesn't always have the same level of obedience with him as with me.

I can't guarantee any results, but I'm sure your kids would love it as training recall involves loads of treats, play and praise.

Aaaah.

See, my kids associate being called to having to do work (pick up toys, set the table, etc.). No wonder they balk sometimes. ;)

heh, that explains it. Number one rule is dog training is that a recall must always be associated with something nice - never something unpleasant. :p
