1200 or "How I loose weight"

It's not fancy, it doesn't require powders, a personal trainer or a list of forbidden foods, but it works for me.

1200 is the amount of calories I burn on a non-active day, being small and bird-boned has its disadvantages, apart from not being able to reach the top shelves in supermarkets and libraries.

I'm counting calories again. I have a max. of XX kilos that I will allow myself to weigh. This is the weight were my underwear begins to block off the blood-supply to my legs and where my double chin becomes more prominent than usual, so every time the bathroom scale hits XX kilos; the calorie counting starts.

I also have a minimum of AA kilos that I will allow myself to weigh, but let's face it: That hasn't been a problem so far...hahaha

Counting calories has always worked for me, because:
1. It's not actually dieting and I am allowed to eat whatever I want to eat, as long as I exercise sufficiently to end up with a daily calorie balance or, preferably, a calorie minus. For someone like me who loves food, this is a huge advantage.

2. Because I have to exercise to burn off any extra consumed calories, I'm much less motivated to eat junk. For example a Lion Bar is approx. 250 calories. Is it *really* worth 1 hour and 40 minutes walk with Lia or 18 km on the exercise bike? I don't think so. Yes, I'm using my own laziness to loose weight. ;)

3. On the other hand, I am more motivated to exercise, because this means that I can EAT more.

The XX and the AA also works really well, as the XX is set low enough to prevent yo-yo weight and so that I don't have to struggle for years to loose the extra kilos.

Haha I don't quite get you. How do you count your calories and know effectively how much exercise you need to burn off a certain amount of calories. And also, how do you determine your calorie balance.

Sorry. I'm not good with dieting. And obviously, I feel the dire need to lose weight. :(

There are a lot of free online calculators where you can calculate how many calories you burn a day if you are not active. I did a quick search and found one for you here:

http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-burned.php

There are also a number of calculators online that will help you calculate how many calories you burn during various activities. Again, I did a quick search and found one here:

http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php

The same goes for food. You can look up the calories of various foods pr. portion or pr. 100 gram online. Many foods will also have a calorie count listed on their packaging.

To loose weight I prefer to aim for -500 calories pr. day. That is by the end of the day, I will have burned 500 calories more than I have eaten. I also allow myself a break-even day here and then. This will ensure a slow, but steady weight loss without me having to "suffer". If you need to loose a lot of weight, you can set this number higher, but don't exaggerate. You don't want to shock your system or starve yourself.

So, to loose weight, I can eat 800 calories a day (1200-500) without exercising. If I do 1 hour of high impact aerobics, I burn approx. 380 calories (I get this number by putting my data into the page of link no. 2), which means I can then eat for a total of 1280 calories (800+380).

It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but after a while you get an approx. idea of how many calories are in the different foods and how many calories you burn with different activities - and it doesn't have to be 100% accurate.

Remember to eat varied and healthily as well - the good part is that there's usually much less calories in healthy food, so eat healthy food to get full and then you can use whatever burnt-calorie surplus you have left for the day to splurge on icecream or cookies. :)
